Handy Hints That Make Moving Day A Little Bit Easier
7 Handy Hints To Make Moving Day A Little Bit Easier
Some people love moving day, the whirlwind of excitement and action combined with the immensely satisfying sensation of starting a new chapter in your life is a feeling that can be hard to match. However, on the other hand, there's also the potential for a lot of stress and exhaustion (due to the inevitable amount of hard work required) at the same time.
We think that moving day should be enjoyable, and many of the things that cause stress during the big day can be mitigated significantly or eliminated altogether.
Here is a list of 7 handy hints that will make your next moving day that little bit easier.
1.) Get Rid Of Unwanted Items
Assuming most of us have seen “Tidying Up” on Netflix… The Marie Kondo effect has become a trend.
It's only when you start to pack all of your belongings up into boxes that you start to realize just how much “stuff” you have accumulated over the years. There's no better time to get rid of things that you never use that you've held on to for years.
When you're packing, if you come across things that have no sentimental value that haven't seen the light of day for quite some time, then consider selling them, donating them, or throwing them away. The less property you have to move, the easier your day is going to be.
2.) Delay Deliveries
There's a good chance that you've got some new furniture on the way for your new property. Unless it's essential (like a bed) then try and time the deliveries to arrive the day after moving day. This gives you a whole lot more time to move and home your existing items which drastically reduces the amount of stress and pressure you may otherwise feel.
3.) Give The Pets / Kids A Vacation
If you're a parent to young children (or own cats or dogs) then it's a good idea to find somewhere to take a vacation for the day while you move into your new home. Ask friends or family to look after them (or book them into a daycare facility) and you'll again have one less thing to think about.
4.) Avoid Using Garbage Bags
It can be tempting to bundle your items into garbage bags when transporting them between your old property and your new one. If you've got friends or family helping you move, they may mistake the bags for trash and accidentally throw them out. It sounds silly, but it happens more often than you'd think.
5.) Attach Labels
It may seem like a waste of time to label boxes when you're only going to be storing them for a day or two – but honestly, it's efficient. The amount of time it takes to open and reseal boxes in your new home to check their contents before moving them into the correct room is much more than the time it takes to scribble a word down on a sticker and attach it to the box.
6.) Create A Go Bag
Think of all the essential items you're going to need from the moment you walk through the door and put them all together in a “go bag”. Things like toiletries, toilet paper, phone chargers, important documents, medication, and a change of clothes will make your life much easier if they are easy to access.
7.) Double Check Before Leaving
There's nothing worse than wondering if you've left something behind in your old property when you've already locked the door and handed over the keys. To avoid any possible doubt, do a final sweep of every corner of every room. Open every cabinet, inspect every countertop, and do a super thorough final check to give yourself complete peace of mind.
