Holiday Events Around The Low Country

Our vibrant local community loves to celebrate the festive period with a wide range of family-friendly holiday events of an exceptional quality. As you can imagine, it’s been hard for us to narrow down the events that are taking place to make recommendations, but here are 4 that are more than worthy of being added to your calendar.

    Let’s get started.

    The Journey

Compassion Christmas Church, 55 Al Henderson Blvd.

    November 30th – December 16th

If you’re only going to go to one holiday event this year, we recommend that The Journey is at the very top of your list. As the name suggests, it’s an expertly produced recreation of “The Journey” that Mary and Joseph made on the very first Christmas to give birth to Jesus Christ. You’ll be transported 2000 years back in time as you wander around the streets of ancient Bethlehem, you’ll come face to face with King Herod, and you’ll follow shepherds to the starlit stable where baby Jesus was born.

The attention to detail that goes into making this event is second to none and the quality, dedication, and passion of the actors and speakers is very impressive. Timed evening tickets are available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The earliest events start at 5.30pm and all tickets cost $10, regardless of time.

Note: There are also tickets available for a 3 pm version of the event that takes place on December 1st, 8th, and 15th.

    Holiday Pops

    Lucas Theatre, 32 Abercorn St.

    December 18th – 19th

Treat your ears to an evening of entertainment courtesy of the extremely talented Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra and their “Holiday Pops” event. Conductor Peter Shannon has teamed up with chorus-master Dr. Matt Caine and 2018 American Traditions Vocal Competition gold medalist Erica Gabriel to create an event that’s guaranteed to create fond festive memories.

They’ll be flawlessly performing a wide range of popular holiday music that you’re sure to know and love. It’s a fun-filled event that will inevitably end up with the crowd singing along, tapping the feet, and dancing in their seats all night long. Shows start at 7.30pm and due to expected demand, we recommend ordering your tickets as early as possible.

    Tybee Island Christmas Parade

    Tybee Island

    December 17th

Tybee’s Christmas parade is one of those events that you’ll visit for the first time as a curiosity, but then it quickly becomes part of your family’s festive traditions.

It’s a reasonably unique parade thanks to the huge amount of effort that is put in by the organizers and participants combined with the unmistakable small-town vibe that Tybee is known for. The star of the show is obviously Santa, and last year he was waving to the crowd on the top of a genuine bright red Tybee fire truck – it’s a whole heap of fun!

Don’t Miss: The parade finishes in the Tybee gym, where the Tybee YMCA has organized a winter wonderland where kids can meet Santa!

    Christmas Eve Dinner Entertainment Cruise

Savannah Riverboats, 9 E. River St.

    December 24th

Why not treat the family to a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner cruise along the Savannah River?

You’ll be dining on a delicious dinner buffet that has been cooked by highly talented chefs as you cruise along the river getting into the festive spirit (which is guaranteed, because it’ll only be one more sleep until the big day).

Dinner is accompanied by an excellent range of live entertainment and the whole event lasts around 2 hours. Boarding starts at 3 pm, the ship sets sail around 4 pm, and you’ll be back on dry land by 6 pm. Tickets are $67.95 for adults and $39.95 for children (kids under 4 are free), advanced reservations are strongly recommended.

Note: Savannah Riverboats are operating an equally popular Christmas eve lunch cruise that departs around 1 pm. Check out their website here for more details.
