Spring is well underway here in Savannah, and as always, there’s no shortage of excellent events taking place in our local area this May. Here are 3 of the best that we think you should be penciling in your calendar this month.

1.) The Tybee Island Tour Of Homes

Saturday, May 4th

The Tybee Island Tour Of Homes has become one of the must-see events in Savannah over the years. On May 4th the 22nd annual incarnation of this wonderful day out takes place, and if you’re a fan of fantastic décor, interesting design, or historic homes – it’s something that you’re not going to want to miss.

The tour is a way for local residents of Tybee Island to open their doors and share their fantastic homes with locals and visitors alike. There will be 8 stunning homes on display this year, including amazing historic cottages, architecturally impressive new builds, and jaw-dropping unique renovation projects.

As you can imagine, we’re in the real estate business, so we love this kind of event. However, you don’t need to be an industry expert to enjoy the Tybee Island Tour Of Homes - if you can appreciate a picture perfect property, then you’re going to love it.

Each year proceeds raised from the event go to various local charities and non-profit organizations, all of which are very worthy causes. This year the organization selected to benefit from your involvement in the tour is the Tybee Island Maritime Academy who does amazing work as the only community school on Tybee Island.

2.) Fairy and Gnome Festival

If you’re looking for something to do with the kids on May 4th, the Tybee Island Tour Of Homes might not be the best choice – while us adults appreciate décor and architecture, there’s a good chance that the kids might not enjoy the experience as much.

In this case, we recommend that you pay a visit to the Fairy and Gnome Festival that takes place at the Oatland Island Wildlife Center. It’s an event that focuses on helping the younger generation reconnect with the natural world by creating a wonderful environment that encourages outdoor play.

There’s a range of activities on offer, all of which revolve around finding or helping fairies and gnomes. They can search for them through the stunning enchanted forests of Oatland, or they can help the magical little critters by building them a fairy village from natural materials. Costumes are strongly recommended, and face painting is available on site, all proceeds from the event are put towards the maintenance and upkeep of Oatland Island Wildlife Centre.

3.) Stand Up For Kids Comedy Competition

Saturday, May 18th

What more could you want from a Saturday evening than raising money for a good cause while enjoying an evening laughing with local celebrities?. The Stand Up For Kids Comedy competition takes place at the American Legion Ballroom where you’ll be treated to a laugher packed evening of entertainment.

Local legends including Andy Blair, Tommy Nickoloff, Jessica Leigh Lebos, Karen Franklin, and Paul Meyer will be performing individual stand up performances in a comedy competition to remember. The winner will be decided by the audience, and they will be awarded the “crack-up crown” at the end of the evening.

We’re blessed with a huge amount of local comedic talent here in Savannah, and if you haven’t seen any of the acts on the bill for this event – it’s a great way to get a crash course in our local comedy scene.

All of the proceeds from this event will go towards helping at-risk children in our local community.
