The Best Local Halloween Happenings: Fun For The Whole Family
Halloween is nearly upon us, and as the ghosts and ghouls get ready to go trick or treating our local area provides a wide range of family-friendly activities that will give you hours of frightening fun for the whole family!
Here are 4 of the best spooky activities in our area that we recommend you check out this Halloween!
1.) West Chatham YMCA Trunk or Treat
The West Chatham YMCA Trunk or Treat is an annual event for Family Fun that is free and open to the public. If you are looking for a fun, safe way for your children to enjoy Trick-or-Treating, look no more! Local vendors from businesses within the community will be lined up and ready to hand out treats.
Once your children have racked up on enough candy to satisfy their sweet tooth for the next few months, they will have the opportunity to participate in a cake walk, get their faces painted, play some fun games, and more!
On Friday, October 26 from 5:30-7:30, bring the kiddos in their favorite Halloween costumes and get ready for some "Spooktacular Fun for All"!
2.) Pooler Fall Festival and Marketplace
We say "It's Cooler in Pooler"! What better way to see how cool it really is in Pooler than to head out to the Pooler Fall Festival and Marketplace on Saturday, October 27th! This is the perfect family event for getting out and enjoying the amazing fall weather.
This Family Fun Day consists of vendors, a hay ride, pumpkin painting contest, face painting, entertainment and so much more! On October 27th, load up your car (or fly on a broom if you prefer), gather all of your fellow creatures and head to the Pooler Fall Festival and Marketplace. This is an event you won't want to miss!
3.) Poppell Farm
Poppell Farm is a little bit of a local legend when it comes to Halloween, this year will be their 18th year of putting on a fall event throughout October. Their activities and attractions bring in families from far and wide who come to enjoy some family-friendly spooky entertainment year after year.
While there are many attractions here to enjoy, the huge 10-acre maze that is cut into the crop at the farm is the star of the show. Each year the maze is carved in a different style and it’s a whole heap of fun for you and the kids to spend an hour (or longer if you get lost) walking around.
The pumpkin patch here is second to none. We love the fact that everyone gets to find the perfect pumpkin to take home with them – they’re all winners, and it’s often hard to decide which one you want! Getting to the pumpkin patch is almost as fun as being inside it, and kids love riding along the on the hayride through the grounds of Poppell Farm.
Poppell Farm is everything that a great all American family-friendly Halloween experience should be. If you’ve not visited before, we strongly recommend you try and make your way there this year – but be warned, you’ll probably be back next year too.
4.) Ghosts And Gravestones Haunted House Tour
This is by far the scariest activity on this list, as such, children under 6 are not allowed on the tour, and all children must be accompanied by an adult (and they should probably enjoy scary things too).
The tour lasts for about 1 hour and 15 minutes and begins with a trip on a spooky trolley that will take you to various haunted houses throughout the local area. The Andrew Low house is the first stop, which has had genuine reports of spirit sightings and paranormal activity for as long as anyone can remember. You’ll then go on to River Street’s Perkins and Sons Ship Chandlery for even more sightseeing in the local area before returning to the simply savannah trolley depot.
The entire experience is narrated and guided by superb tour guides who really manage to bring the perfect balance of scary and fun to the event. It’s one of the best haunted house experiences in the entire state, and we highly recommend you check it out…if you dare!
